Yaan Man, India’s first makeup brand exclusively for men, appeared on Shark Tank India Season 4, Episode 19.

Founded in 2021 by Rahul Shah, Yaan Man is designed to simplify grooming for men, offering products that are effortless, effective, and confidence-boosting.

The brand aims to redefine self-expression for men through its innovative product line.

Rahul Shah entered the tank seeking ₹50 lakh for 6% equity, valuing his business at ₹8.33 crore.

He introduced himself, shared insights into his background, and presented his products to the sharks. While showcasing the concealer range, Vineeta recalled her internship in the UK 15 years ago, saying, “Back then, it was so normal for my banker friends to use concealers to hide their dark circles. But even in 2024, convincing the men in my life to wear sunscreen is a challenge.”

Aman noted that no one in his circle pays attention to makeup. Rahul explained that their strategy focused on emotions rather than explicitly labeling it as makeup. At this point, Namita made an interesting observation: “A lot of gay men wear makeup—it’s deeply embedded in certain cultural communities. Do you think men hesitate because of the perception that only gay men use makeup?” Rahul acknowledged the stigma, but Vineeta and Aman had differing views.

Curious about his background, Vineeta asked about his family. Rahul revealed that he comes from a business family, but their main concern was never what he was selling, it was how much he was selling.

“They didn’t care about the category, only the sales numbers,” he remarked. His family is involved in cotton and chemical trading, operating a joint business worth around ₹500 crore.

Discussing unit economics, Rahul admitted his venture was currently running at a loss but was offset by his ₹20-25 lakh/month consulting business. Anupam questioned the need for funding, given his family’s ₹500 crore business. Rahul replied, “I want to phase out consulting—not sure at what cost, but I’ll figure it out.” Anupam appreciated his honesty.

Despite Rahul’s sharp responses, Vineeta stepped away. Anupam, Peyush, and Namita questioned his reluctance to call it makeup. Namita stated, “Your reels clearly show it’s makeup, so why hesitate? Don’t beat around the bush. I’m out, but take my advice.”

Peyush also opted out, feeling Rahul wasn’t entirely confident in building the category. Meanwhile, Aman made an offer—₹50 lakh for 10% equity. Anupam countered with ₹50 lakh for 9%. Rahul then asked if both sharks could join forces, but Anupam quipped, “We don’t usually get along—it takes money to make that happen!” He then revised his offer: ₹1 crore for 20% equity.” Rahul accepted the deal.
