Prasar Bharati’s newly launched OTT platform, WAVES has achieved a remarkable milestone by crossing over 1 million downloads within just one month of its rollout.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced this achievement on the social media platform X, stating, “WAVES OTT is more than a platform—it’s a celebration of India’s rich culture, vibrant stories, and technological prowess.”

The platform was launched on November 21, 2024, during the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. It has been celebrated as more than just an OTT service—a unique hub that fuses India’s rich cultural heritage with modern technology.

WAVES prioritizes regional content, offering a diverse library in languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, and more, catering to the growing demand for regional OTT content.

Previously reported for its innovative features, WAVES integrates e-commerce through the government’s ONDC and collaborates with content creators, film schools, and global players like Lionsgate and Mud Games.

With the Indian streaming market projected to grow to $2.77 billion by 2027 at an annual rate of 11.1%, WAVES is poised to play a significant role in reshaping digital entertainment in India.
