Pepperfry Co-Founder Ambareesh Murty Passes Away at 51

Ambareesh Murty, the esteemed Co-founder and CEO of the prominent online furniture platform Pepperfry, tragically passed away on Monday night due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Murty, aged 51, was known for his significant contributions to the e-commerce industry and his leadership in shaping Pepperfry’s success.

Before co-founding Pepperfry, Murty held a pivotal role as the country manager at eBay India, Philippines, and Malaysia, where he gained valuable experience and insights that would later shape his entrepreneurial journey.

Co-founder Ashish Shah expressed his grief in a heartfelt tweet on Tuesday, stating, “Extremely devastated to inform that my friend, mentor, brother, soulmate Ambareesh Murty is no more. Lost him yesterday night to a cardiac arrest at Leh. Please pray for him and for strength to his family and near ones.

Pepperfry, established in 2012 by Murty and Shah, rapidly grew into a leading online furniture company, revolutionizing the way Indians approached interior design and home decor. The company successfully raised over $230 million in investments from renowned backers, including Norwest Venture Partners and Bertelsmann India Investments, which further solidified its position in the market.

Murty’s journey to becoming a trailblazing entrepreneur began with his role as the marketing manager at Britannia Industries in 2005. He subsequently held the position of brand leader at Levi Strauss India in 2003, showcasing his dynamic approach to business and branding.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Murty was known for his multifaceted interests. An avid biker and reader, he often found solace in the simple joys of life.
