EMotorad Set to Complete Phase-1 Build of Gigafactory in Pune

EMotorad, a Pune-based electric cycle manufacturer, is gearing up to unveil the first phase of its state-of-the-art factory in Ravet, Pune.

The announcement comes on the heels of a recent undisclosed investment from cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The 240,000-square-foot facility, slated for inauguration on August 15th, signifies a significant leap forward for EMotorad.

Founder and CEO Kunal Gupta revealed that the factory will have the capacity to produce a staggering 500,000 e-cycles annually. Moreover, this expansion will also bring about a surge in employment opportunities, with an additional 300 personnel set to join the current workforce of 250.

Following in the footsteps of Ola Electric, EMotorad’s expansion underscores India’s emergence as a global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. With two of the world’s largest gigafactories – one for Ola Electric two-wheelers and the other for EMotorad e-cycles – India is solidifying its position in the electric mobility sector.

The ambitious project will unfold in four phases, eventually culminating in South Asia’s largest integrated e-cycle gigafactory. Post-completion, it will stand as the largest facility of its kind outside of China, highlighting India’s prowess in the electric vehicle arena.

EMotorad’s vision extends beyond mere production. The company aims to foster innovation by manufacturing crucial components like batteries, motors, displays, and chargers in-house.

Also it is actively diversifying its product range to include new electric cycles and innovative form factors such as e-bikes tailored for delivery personnel.

Kunal Gupta expressed optimism about the company’s future prospects, emphasizing its global aspirations. “India’s economic landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, and this factory marks a significant milestone in our journey. We are keen to expand our footprint in European and North American markets and eagerly anticipate engaging with clients worldwide,” Gupta stated.

Established in 2020 by Gupta along with Rajib Gangopadhyay, Aditya Oza, and Sumedh Battewar, EMotorad has swiftly carved a niche for itself in the burgeoning e-cycle market.

Prior to Dhoni’s recent investment, EMotorad secured Rs 164 crore in November 2023 in a Series B funding round led by Panthera Growth Partners.

With a robust network of over 350 dealers spanning across 10 experience centers nationwide, EMotorad is poised to spearhead India’s transition towards a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
