Confect, a luxury confectionery brand founded by Chef Gauri Kaushish Varma, made a stellar debut on the first episode of Shark Tank India Season 4.

Gauri captivated the audience with her ambitious plans for global expansion, emphasizing the brand’s transition to international markets while showcasing her innovative approach to baking.

The Pitch

Sharing her inspiring journey, Gauri recounted how she started Confect from scratch, becoming a pioneer in the industry by introducing fondant cakes to India in 2015-2016. She revealed the creation of over 800 SKUs as part of her business model, highlighting how Confect was among the first in India to import baking confectionery materials like fondants and sprinkles.

While Gauri’s vision impressed many, some sharks questioned her strategy. Peyush Bansal criticized the expansive product portfolio, calling it an overreach, while Anupam Mittal labelled her approach “indecisive.” Unfazed, Gauri defended her model, asserting her belief in variety as a differentiating factor in the market.

Despite criticism, Namita Thapar believed in Gauri’s vision and stepped forward with an offer of ₹1 crore for 2% equity and a 2% royalty until the investment was recovered—a deal Gauri gladly accepted.

Founded in 2014 by Chef Gauri Kaushish Varma, Confect claims to offer gluten-free, dairy-free, lactose-free, nut-free, trans-fat-free, and 100% vegetarian products, positioning itself as India’s first chef-based brand in this category.

The brand has revolutionized the luxury confectionery space by blending innovative baking techniques with premium ingredients. With over 800 unique products, Confect continues to lead the market, offering premium baking essentials and bakery materials to both professionals and home bakers.

Speaking candidly after her pitch, Gauri reflected on the grilling session. In a fiery statement reported by ETimes, she remarked, “Ab unko FOMO ho raha hai na. First, Anupam called me indecisive, but that’s how 800 products happen. I wanted to tell Peyush, tum ek hi chashma becho na, kyun itne designs nikale hue hai. Mujhe lagta hai baaki sharks ko cake ka ‘k’ bhi nahi pata. If they would have straight-up told me they weren’t interested, I’d understand. But yeh befaltu ke excuses were not required at all.”
