Gunjan Soni Appointed as YouTube India’s Country Managing Director

Her career in India includes leadership roles at Star India as Executive Vice President and Myntra as Chief Marketing Officer.

YouTube has appointed Gunjan Soni as the Country Managing Director for India, the platform announced on Monday.

Soni steps into the role following the exit of Ishan Chatterjee, who stepped down in 2024 to join JioCinema as Chief Revenue Officer.

With over two decades of leadership experience across business, technology, marketing, and e-commerce, Soni will lead YouTube’s growth and innovation strategy in India, one of its most dynamic markets.

Before joining YouTube, Soni served as Group CEO of ZALORA, where she spent six years based in Singapore. During her tenure, she introduced new categories and business models, drove innovation, and enhanced the platform’s user experience through personalization and a successful loyalty program.

Soni also served as an independent director on the board of Zomato, stepping down in October 2024 citing increased work commitments.

Her career in India includes leadership roles at Star India as Executive Vice President and Myntra as Chief Marketing Officer. She was earlier a Partner at McKinsey & Company in its Consumer and Marketing Practice. Additionally, Soni serves on the board of CBRE Group, a Fortune 500 company.

Welcoming her, Gautam Anand, Vice President and Managing Director for YouTube APAC, said in a LinkedIn post, “As India remains one of YouTube’s most vibrant and crucial markets, brimming with creativity and opportunity, I’m delighted to announce that Gunjan Soni has joined YouTube as our new Country Managing Director for India.”

Expressing her excitement, Soni said, “The way YouTube empowers creators and connects communities across India is truly inspiring. I am both humbled and thrilled to join this dynamic team and lead a platform that has long supported the powerhouse of talent that is the Indian creator economy.”
