Sisir Radar, a Kolkata-based spacetech startup specializing in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology, has secured $1.5 million in a seed funding round led by Shastra VC, with participation from Riverwalk Holdings and INVSTT.

The funding will bolster the company’s research and development, enhance manufacturing capabilities, and support the launch of the world’s highest-resolution L-band SAR satellite by the end of 2026.

Founded in 2022 by Dr. Tapan Misra, former director of the Space Applications Centre at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), along with co-founders Soumya Misra and Urmi Bhambhani, Sisir Radar is pioneering SAR imaging payloads across multiple bands, including L, P, and X bands.

Their technology enables continuous, real-time Earth monitoring, penetrating darkness, clouds, and dense foliage.

This capability is crucial for applications in defense, agriculture, mining, disaster response, maritime surveillance, and infrastructure monitoring.

In addition to partnering with major defense companies in India to develop radar solutions, Sisir Radar has secured two Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) challenges.

These projects involve creating submetric L-band and high-resolution P-band SAR satellites for the Indian Air Force, further solidifying the company’s role in advancing India’s defense technology.
